Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), formerly known as the University of Pune, is one of India's most prestigious public universities. Established on 10 February 1949, it is popularly known as the "Oxford of the East" because of its academic excellence, research culture and international reputation. The university's sprawling 411-acre campus is located in Ganeshkhind, Pune.
