CONTENT FIELD: If you are among those students who are now setting their sights on the 2027 cycle, this article is your starting point. Here is everything you need to know about JEE Main 2027 — expected dates, registration, exam pattern, eligibility, and how to prepare smartly from today.

What is JEE Main 2027?

JEE Main 2027 is the next edition of the Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the National Testing Agency. It is the national-level gateway for admission to B.Tech, B.E., B.Arch, and B.Planning programmes at NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions across India. It also serves as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which leads to admission in the Indian Institutes of Technology.

Just like every previous year, JEE Main 2027 is expected to be conducted in two sessions — Session 1 in January 2027 and Session 2 in April 2027. Students can appear in one or both sessions, and the better of the two scores will be considered for the final merit list and All India Rank.

Expected Exam Dates for JEE Main 2027

The National Testing Agency has not yet released the official exam dates for JEE Main 2027. However, based on the pattern followed in previous years, here are the expected timelines:

Session 1 — January 2027 — Expected between January 20 and January 30, 2027

Session 2 — April 2027 — Expected between April 1 and April 10, 2027

The official notification and confirmed dates will be released by NTA on its official website. Students are advised to keep checking for updates regularly once the academic year 2026-27 progresses.

Expected Registration Dates

For Session 1, registration is expected to open in November 2026 and close in December 2026. For Session 2, the application window is expected to open in February 2027 and close by late February or early March 2027. A correction window is typically provided after the registration closes, allowing students to fix minor errors in their application.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2027 are expected to remain the same as in 2026. Students must have passed or must be appearing in Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2025, 2026, or 2027. Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2024 or earlier will not be eligible to apply. There is no upper age limit to appear in JEE Main. However, students must meet the age criteria of the individual institutes they wish to seek admission in.

Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects in Class 12. Indian citizens, NRIs, PIOs, and Overseas Citizens of India are all eligible to apply.

Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for JEE Main 2027 is expected to follow the same structure as previous years. Paper 1 for B.E. and B.Tech will cover Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The total number of questions will be 90, with a maximum score of 300 marks. Each correct answer will carry 4 marks. Each wrong answer in multiple-choice questions will result in a deduction of 1 mark. Numerical-type questions will carry no negative marking. The exam will be conducted in Computer-Based Test mode across two shifts daily.

Paper 2A for B.Arch and Paper 2B for B.Planning will also be conducted as part of JEE Main 2027 for students interested in architecture and planning programmes.

Syllabus

The JEE Main 2027 syllabus is based on the Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT curriculum. The three core subjects are Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. NTA may release a revised syllabus ahead of the 2027 exam, so students are advised to always refer to the official NTA notification for the final and confirmed syllabus before starting their preparation.

How Many Attempts Are Allowed?

Students can appear in both Session 1 and Session 2 of JEE Main 2027. This gives every student two opportunities in a single academic year. The best NTA score from the two sessions is used to calculate the final All India Rank. Students can also choose to appear in only one session if they prefer.

What Happens After JEE Main 2027?

The top 2.5 lakh candidates from JEE Main 2027 will qualify for JEE Advanced 2027, which is the entrance exam for IIT admissions. All other candidates will be eligible for JoSAA counselling, through which seats at NITs, IIITs, and Government Funded Technical Institutions are allotted based on rank, category, and branch preference.

Preparation Tips for JEE Main 2027

If you are starting your preparation now, you have a real advantage — time. Here is how to use it wisely.

Start with NCERT. Every concept in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics must be crystal clear at the NCERT level before you move to advanced books. NCERT is the foundation, and JEE Main tests that foundation more directly than most students realise.

Practice previous year question papers. The best way to understand the exam is to solve past papers. JEE Main question papers from the last five to seven years will show you which topics are asked repeatedly and how questions are framed.

Focus on weak subjects early. Most students leave their weakest subject for last. Do the opposite — give your hardest subject the most time when you still have plenty of it.

Take mock tests regularly. From at least six months before the exam, take full-length mock tests under real exam conditions. Time management inside the exam hall is a skill that only comes with practice.

Do not ignore Mathematics. In JEE Main 2026 Session 2, Mathematics was reported as the toughest section across most shifts. It has consistently been the deciding factor between good scores and great scores. Give it the time it deserves.

Final Word

JEE Main 2027 is the next big milestone for lakhs of students across India. The competition will be intense — over 11 lakh students appeared in JEE Main 2026 Session 2 alone, and that number is only expected to grow. But the exam rewards those who prepare with clarity, consistency, and courage.

Start today. Stay consistent. Use both sessions. And let JEE Main 2027 be the exam that opens the door you have been working towards.
